Making It Look Good: Colors, Fonts and Your Own Style With AI (Module 4, Lesson 5)

Simple design rules for moms making printables and tools with AI: pick your colors and fonts once, write a style card, and get every new creation to match.

Module 4 · Lesson 5 of 5 · About 12 minutes

AI can make things fast. Making them look like they belong together, and like you, takes one small step: decide your style once and give it to the AI every time.

Five rules that fix most designs

  1. Two or three colors, not seven. One main color, one accent, and a neutral background.
  2. Two fonts at most. One for headings, one for everything else.
  3. Room to breathe. Empty space makes things look calm and expensive. Crowded looks cheap.
  4. Big enough to read. If it’s for kids or the fridge, go bigger than you think.
  5. Same layout every time. Title in the same spot, same corners, same little details. That’s what makes a set look like a set.

Find your style

Help me pick a style Claude

Help me pick a simple design style for printables I'll make for [my family / other moms]. I like [words: cozy farmhouse, bright and playful, calm and minimal]. Suggest 3 style options, each with: 3 colors (with color codes), a heading font and a body font that are free to use, and one sentence on the feel. Then build a small sample checklist in each style so I can see them.

Pick the one you’d be happy to see a hundred times. That’s your style.

Write your style card

Turn your choice into a short “style card” you paste whenever you make something. Better yet, put it in the instructions of your Shop Project from Module 3 so it’s used automatically.

Style card template Claude

My style: [name it, e.g. Cozy Coop]
Colors: main [color + code], accent [color + code], background [color + code]
Heading font: [font]. Body font: [font]
Feel: [warm, simple, a little playful]
Always: generous white space, rounded corners, title top left, small [chicken / leaf / star] icon in a corner
Never: more than 3 colors, clip art, tiny text

Make a matching set

Restyle to match Claude

Using my style card [paste it], restyle this printable so it matches the rest of my set: [paste or describe the printable]. Keep the content the same; only change the look.

Ask for a critique

Before you call something finished, ask: “Critique this design like a picky customer. What looks amateur, and what’s the one change that would improve it most?” Then make that one change.

Fonts and pictures you can use

If you plan to sell, use fonts and images you’re allowed to use commercially. Free fonts from Google Fonts are a safe choice. Avoid copying another seller’s look or anyone’s logo or characters.

Try it tonight

Run Help me pick a style, choose one, and write your style card. Then restyle the chore chart from Lesson 1 to match. Put the two side by side. That’s the start of a product line.

You finished Module 4.

You can now make printables, worksheets, pictures and working little tools, all in your own style. Next, Module 5 turns what you make for your family into something other moms want.
