Claude and Grok: Which One Does What (AI Academy for Moms, Lesson 2)

Claude vs Grok for moms: what each AI helper is best at, what Grok Bot does, and how to use the two together.

Module 1 · Lesson 2 of 5 · About 10 minutes

This course uses two AI helpers on purpose. They’re good at different things, and using them together catches mistakes either one would make alone.

Claude: the careful writer and maker

Claude is made by a company called Anthropic. You use it at claude.ai or in the Claude app.

Reach for Claude when you want:

  • Writing that sounds like a person. Emails, letters, product descriptions, the tricky message to your sister.
  • Long things read and explained. Paste in the school handbook or the insurance letter and ask what it actually says.
  • Things built for you. Claude can make a working checklist, chart, calculator or little app right in the chat. This is the backbone of Modules 4 and 5.
  • Projects. A folder where Claude remembers your instructions and files for one part of your life, like “Homeschool” or “My shop.”

Grok: the up-to-the-minute researcher and picture maker

Grok is made by a company called xAI. You use it at grok.com, in the Grok app, or inside X (the app that used to be Twitter).

Reach for Grok when you want:

  • What’s happening right now. Grok searches the web and X live, so it’s good for “what are people saying about this car seat recall?” or “what’s trending for teacher gifts this year?”
  • Pictures and short videos. Grok Imagine makes images from a description and gives you several versions at once to pick from. Party graphics, product mockups, coloring-page ideas.
  • Talking hands-free. Grok’s voice mode is great while you’re cooking or folding laundry.

Grok Bot: the helper that works while you don’t

Grok Bot is a separate app from xAI. Instead of answering one question, a bot is a helper you set up once with a job, and it keeps doing that job on a schedule. For example: “Every Sunday, find this week’s sales at my grocery store and build a meal plan around them.” Grok Bot needs a paid Grok plan, so it’s optional for this course. In Module 3 you’ll see when it’s worth paying for, and a free way to get a similar weekly routine.

The tag-team habit

Here’s the habit this course will drill in: Grok finds, Claude checks and polishes. Ask Grok to research something current. Then paste what it found into Claude and ask, “What here might be wrong or missing?” Two different helpers disagreeing is your signal to look closer.

Try it tonight

Look at the three time-eaters you wrote down in Lesson 1. Next to each one, write “Claude”, “Grok” or “both” using the table above. There’s no wrong answer. You’re just starting to think in helpers.
