Grok Imagine turns a description into a picture, and gives you several versions to choose from. It’s perfect for invitations, decorations, coloring pages and, later, pictures for your products.
Where to find it
Open grok.com or the Grok app and choose Imagine. Still pictures are free to start, with daily limits; video and higher limits need a paid plan. Grok adds a small watermark to its pictures.
The picture recipe
Describe it like you’re telling an artist what to draw:
- Subject: what’s in it (a cheerful hen wearing a party hat)
- Style: watercolor, flat cartoon, simple line art, cozy photo
- Colors and mood: soft pastels, bright and bold, warm morning light
- Layout: “empty space in the middle for text”, “square”, “wide banner”
- What to leave out: “no words or letters” (AI often misspells text in pictures)
Five things to make this week
Party invitation background Grok Imagine
A bright, cheerful [theme] birthday party invitation background in flat cartoon style, soft colors, with a big empty area in the middle for text. No words or letters.
Coloring page Grok Imagine
A simple black-and-white coloring page for a [age]-year-old: [subject, e.g. three chickens having a picnic]. Thick clean outlines, no shading, no gray, white background, large areas to color.
Door sign or banner Grok Imagine
A wide banner illustration of [subject] in a cozy watercolor style, warm colors, with a plain strip across the middle where I can add words later. No text.
Add your words afterward in Claude (ask it to put your picture and text together into a printable) or in a free photo or design app you already use. The words come out cleaner that way.
Pick, then tweak
Imagine gives you several versions. Pick the closest, then change one thing at a time: “same picture, but the hen is red” or “more space at the top.” Changing everything at once tends to lose what you liked.
What you can and can’t make
- Don’t make characters or brands you don’t own. No famous cartoon characters, team logos or toy brands, even for a party. If you sell it, it can get your shop shut down.
- Don’t make pictures of real people without their OK, and never of other people’s children.
- Selling AI pictures? Read the rules for sellers first. Some shops require you to say AI was used, and in the US a picture made only by AI generally can’t be copyrighted, so others could copy it.
Try it tonight
Make a coloring page of something your child loves. Print it and color it together. Ask them what they’d change, then try that in Imagine.
